The best season for a first trip from Kochi

The southwest monsoon arrives around June and stays until September. It's the season for waterfalls and green hills, but rain can be heavy and some roads in the hills face landslides, so keep plans flexible.

October to February is the most comfortable time for the backwaters and beaches. Onam, usually in August or September, brings festive meals and boat races.
